What's with people comparing freemasons to illuminati and satanism?

Why are people so agitated and pointing out fingers to Freemasons and calling them satanic or illuminati? To be a mason, one of your requirements is to believe in a supreme being of your choice. That supreme being will not be put to question as it is you own preference. Discussing politics or religion in a lodge may get you kicked out of Freemasonry as they are the most divisive subjects and Masonry is all about brotherhood and perfecting your moral characteristics. The Freemasons were linked to the Illuminati in the early 18th century but shortly after they separated and they are separated till today.
